real time electricity monitor - can i use for single appliance?

hello all!

i have got an electricity monitor free from british gas. thing is that i want to use it just for a single appliance (tumble drier) as i know that it increases our bill by lots and lots!!

i have a lodger who uses the drier even when it is sunny so i put it in the shed over summer and saved loads of money! :money:

but as there are three adults in our house and the weather is horrid i have had to put it into use again. i want to monitor the usage of just the tumble drier. so that i can show him how much it uses and get him to pay his share... do i have to buy another monitor?
it's nice to be important but more important to be nice!! :kisses3:

Turn everything else off whilst the tumble dryer is running OR measure the KWH before/ after the tumble dryer runs and subtract that from the KWH whilst it is running.

Or just put the tumble dryer back in the shed and purchase a decent clothes airer! I have this and it's brilliant - takes up two foot square of floor space, easily holds two loads of laundry and folds away when not in use:

To be honest did you agree with the lodger than rent included electricity? If so it's not really fair to ask for more money now you know they are making full use of the facilities.

If he is a lodger, surely he pays his share within his rent.
If you dont feel he's paying his share, then put his rent up.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Why not put the sensor on the tumble drier cable rather than the one on meter and see if it picks anything up?

i did originally include electric in the rent but that was over 4yrs ago!! this is a long term lodger! unfortunately with three adults an airer is not working in this weather!
