in Credit cards
Recently I got refused one credit card and I was surprised!!! as I was expecting my credit rating to be good as I never miss a payment etc...but then when I got the credit reports from Experian and Equifax, both of them showed that me and roja's names are not there in the electoral roll..when I called up the council they told me that both our names have been entered wrongly...
I mean they have my surname :: Real names removed for privacy protection - FM :: where as they are our first names..I told them to change and they changed...but it may take a while for the credit ref agencies to pick up this change..anyway I am in no hurry to get a new credit card...
but one more doubt is
I have 3 current accounts
1 Barclays, 1 HSBC and 1 Halifax which I use regularly..
the Barclays one and the HSBC one I don't use them and they are inactive...would having inactive current account reduce credit scoring any ideas ? if so I will close my Barclays and also the HSBC accounts today...
pls suggest...
Regards,
Satish

Current accounts are not generaly reported to the CRA's unless you have an overdraft that you are activley using.
The only way this could have a negitive impact is if you had a very large overdraft which was not utilized as this would be taken into acount as available credit
with regards to the Electoral issues, these should be updated within the month, if they are not then chase equifax / experian and they will liaise with the council. It’s hard enough remembering my opinions - without remembering my reasons for them :rolleyes:0 -
hi thanks a lot for your reply. you made me realise a very important point, the thing is I have £4500 overdraft facility on my barclays accout which I have not used for more than 2 years. I think along with my name not being listed on the electorol roll, this also may have added to reduction of my credit score. anyway I have just now gone to the branch and closed my account. I also received a letter from the borough council today saying that they have corrected me and my wifes names on the electorol roll and they will forward the amended details to the credit ref agencies on the 3rd of july. hopefully this should bring my credit score to a good rating. I have also close my un used HSBC credit card today which had a limit of 2000. thanks a lot for your suggestions !!! i appreciated it mate.0

I think things might be changing here file_wizzard.file_wizzard wrote:Current accounts are not generaly reported to the CRA's unless you have an overdraft that you are activley using.
My wife and I have each opened current accounts with A&L and Barclays this year and, despite requesting no overdraft facilities, all the accounts are being reported to the CRA's (although obviously showing a zero balance).0 -
More banks are nowadays 'sharing' information via credit agencies to counter the charge of offering too much credit to people who cannot afford it.0

Hi, just to follow on, I have a basic account with the Nationwide only a cashcard and that's it, yet was surprised to find they are reporting it to Experian and Equifax!
