Frankly, it's a bit pathetic when someone comes onto MSE who clearly has a good grasp on investment and finance generally, wanting some added value from those similarly interested, that the response of half the posters on the thread is not to worry your pretty little head about the numbers but go away and get a boyfriend or a pair of shoes.

This is the kind of attitude that underpins the very widespread ignorance of financial matters that causes so much trouble in the UK.IMHO it is to be deplored.

You're right. It's a damning indictment of MSE to be honest.

Why?MSE is trying to do something about this deplorable state of affairs.Hardly MSE's fault if some posters show backsliding tendencies.

    Are you always so obtuse?

By MSE, I think it's clear I was referring to the collective posting communityn that comprises MSE.

Actually, don't malign everyone else, EdInvestor, it was only me that gave her this advice, not half the board. She sounds as though she has everything pretty much sorted out financially in her life already. As I believe finances should only be a means to an end - i.e. enjoying in whatever way we choose to live our lives - I was trying to point out that to the OP. And I would do that whether they were male or female.

I weep for the mathematical skills of the youth of today. ;)

I suspect Edinvestor is a bit more sensitive than others to these slights, Harry.

    Errr.....

Other than this, enjoy yourself, there is more to life than just savings, investments, pensions and mortgage. It's good to be ceareful but make sure you live a little.

To be fair HP did also post a useful response on the money angle, why was this chaser necessary?

Because an essential aspect of good financial knowledge is to understand what money is for too.

Frankly, it's advice I need to follow in my own case too.

Why are you so sensitive to this?

Nothing wrong with the advice given in this thread in my opinion! Just a reminder to take a step back occasionally and think about life RIGHT NOW.
