Are there still backlogs of mail in London?
I purchased a very expensive item last Monday and paid for 1st class recorded. Still have not received it, and the email i just received from the seller doesn't really make much sense to be honest, (seen as i paid for tracked!)
Dear Customer
Thank you for your email.
Your item was posted on the following date.
Checkout: 16-Nov-09
Payment Date: 16-Nov-09
Postage Date: 16-Nov-09
If you have not received the item 5 days from the above postage date for u.k customers and 10 days for international customers please could you kindly contact your local post office quoting our name and address ( unless the item was posted recorded post there will be no tracking number )
Quite often the postal services can overlook leaving a calling card.
Please get back to me if after checking with your postal services you have still not received your item.
If goods are lost in the post you will be refunded but only after 3 weeks from the original postage date as required by royal mail incase the item has been incorrectly posted and later turns up.
Please email me if you require any further information.
Thank you

I am in East London and my mail has never been so quick! I bought a whole load of things last week and one of them, a book was sent 2nd class one afternoon immediately I paid for it and arrived less than 24 hours later at 10am.
I find that email a little too (can't think of a word here) um, 'difficult'. I don't like being told I have to wait 3 weeks for a refund and I don't like a generic email for a problem..it rather suggests this happens a lot to them.
I'd give it another few days and if you don't get the item I'd just put in a chargeback anyway as thay still gives the seller plenty of time to sort it out.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. You can always check with your sorting office, it does happen, has the seller given you an item number along with this (as it was sent recorded?)
This would be helpful at the sorting office as they can then check if an attempted delivery has been made and if the item is back in the office or not.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -
SW london there still is.By all accounts talking to our local temp postie (havent had a fulltimer for months) there still is a huge backlog especially on packets/parcels in some parts of london. We are still waiting for near 8 1st class packets sent to us over 2/3 weeks ago.
We even had 2 deliveries today alas only 2 out of the 8 came.0 -
Thanks for the replies, I haven't got a tracking number for the item, and they haven't even said how it's been sent (just the listing said 1st class recorded)
I received that response from the seller after asking when i can expect to receive the item and it doesn't really answer my question. Surely if it had been sent recorded the logical thing would be to give me the tracking number?
I just wondered if it was strikes causing it to be held up, or maybe they haven't even posted it yet after all. There's been several sellers who have mucked around posting things i've purchased recently  Really need the item soon! LOL It's a brand new leather jacket, to replace my husbands tatty 5 year old torn one!If google doesn't know it, how should i?0 -
I posted an item first class recorded delivery on November 5th, and it arrived with the buyer yesterday (21st November).
Next time I need to have something delivered to the opposite end of the country, I'm going to stand at the nearest junction of the M6, flag down a random motorist, give him the parcel and a £5 note and trust in his good faith that the item will get to the buyer.
It'll probably arrive quicker and in better condition.0 -
Well how convenient, Opened a dispute yesterday and parcel arrived today, First class recorded. No postage date though! I've an inkling it was posted yesterday! (maybe that's why seller neglected to give me tracking number before!)If google doesn't know it, how should i?0

How come there is no posting date on the label?0

If you check the recorded number online it usually says when it was handed over to the pO. You can use that date to judge the appropriate feedback.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
