National Transport Tokens

I have a bag of National Transort Tokens (approx £50) that I found when clearing an elederly relatives house. They are dated 2003, can they still be used?

Don't think so - they were replaced by bus passes.

But check with your local authority

Collectors may buy them on e-bay

    Yes they can.

Portsmouth City Council still issues them each year to over 60s who do not want a bus pass. They can be used on taxis, buses and trains, but maybe only in the area they are issued. I buy my Senior Railcard with them. :D

There may well be other local authorities who also issue them.
  • Thanks for reply - will try to use on the train tomorrow. You don't think the date is a problem?

Here is a list of the authorities that issue National Travel Tokens.
I have no idea how up-to-date that list is.
There is a 'contact us' page on that website. Perhaps they will buy them back?

The date will not be a problem, but I am pretty sure you will have trouble using them where they are not frequenty seen.
  • the only N T T that are accepted now are the silver plastic ones with no expiry date on. If yours are a coloured plastic token with an expiry date on they will no longer be accepted.

If you are obviously under 60 would they be accepted anyway?

Possibly... but I guess that may depend on location.

For example, the Portsmouth City Council website says...
The scheme is available to anyone:
    • aged 60 and over
    • aged over 5 who is registered disabled
    • who receives Disability Living Allowance that includes a mobility payment
    • who has a medical condition that prevents them from driving...
