Blckbrd is spot on in what he said. The outline - because the details are to long - is Newham homes are renovating all their homes under the goverments decent homes policy and the costs are past on to the leaseholders.

The main complaints are a lot of the work needed was due to the landlords neglect, some of the works listed on our bills don't exist e.g. lift refurbishments. We dont have lifts!! unecassary work carried out. to be honest it's a long list and it's been managed very badly. However things are starting to look up as they are now saying they're going to reduce the bills by 40%. Makes you wonder how they came up with their first figure.

Anyway, i'm starting to feel bad now as i'm starting to hijack reallyniceblokes thread. My point was to hang in there, keep fighting and see if there's anyone else in the same position as you so you can join forces.

Still think any action would be against the seller but anyway. Following links may give OP something to mull over:

I really feel your pain on this one.

When i bought my flat we were told that works were due in a couple of years time estimated @ £5000. Not a real show stopper given the notice however the works have now been carried out and we have been hit with a bill of £27k and the k's not a mistake. Some of my neighbours have been hit with £49k on a 2 bed flat worth £150k.

I wont bore you with all the details but there is major up roar as you can imagine. We've been in the local paper and the news and also have Eric Pickles on side as well as all the local councillors. This is going to be a very long and bloody battle.

Only positive is it has brought the community together.

    Good luck with your fight.

Why are you going to the press and your councillor? Have you exhausted the Leasehold Valuation Tribunal route?
