Car/Buyer matching companies - Zombies!

Anyone who has sold a car through a magazine like Auto Trader or Loot has probably had a call from one of these companies who always seems to have 'buyers waiting' for your car, who are prepared to 'pay the asking price' and then nothing ever materializes!!

Well, a few weeks ago, I advertised a car in the Loot for £2600 but due to a printing error, they accidentaly put the price at £12600. Obviously, I didnt get any response ... except a call from one of these companies .... ' we have buyers waiting who are prepared to pay the asking price'. I was like "So you have people waiting who are prepared to pay £12600 for Fiat Punto Turbo Diesel??? You do realaise the car probably cost less than that NEW!!". The lady on the phone was so embarrased and ended the call quick smart.

My point is that these people must be complete ZOMBIES if they arent even doing their research before calling the sellers. I am completely against this kind of company anyway as they call you sounding like a potential buyer (and getting your hopes up) before going into their rubbish spiel but what happened to me was just the icing on the cake (and made them look really silly).

Complete rips offs, there is an expose in autpexpress this week and highlights the small print.

I foolishly (before MSE) paid one of these companies £80 to match me up. No phone calls at all.

If you think about it, when you are buying a car do you look for companies like this? No, neither do I because there finance deeals are rubbish and that's how the supposedly make their money.

I had 2 calls from the same one in the same day. At the second call I asked them not to call me again and it's been 3 days now, so hopefully they won't.

I also got this email in response to my ad... I haven't replied to him as I can't work out if he is some advance-fee fraud type guy trying it on!

    Good day,
My name is James Lewis. Im interested in buying your !!1999 ROVER 200 211 SE 8V 3dr Hatchback Special Eds} , which I saw for sale. I'm moved by the advert, which is o.k. for me to buy. I will want you to mail me if it is still for sale and I will like you to email me with your last offering price so as to make plans for it in buying it. So I will be expecting your reply on it for I am serious about it. Thanks hope to here from you soon.Thanks...

Yes, this is a scam. You will get a cheque for more than the amount and be asked to send the difference to him, via Wesern Union. The cheque will be a fake and you will lose out.

It's the standard email from a scammer, no mention of wanting to view it, no contact details, no other questions, item description just cut and pasted from advert.
