Garmin Nuvi 205 refurbished sat nav?
Hi all, am looking for some advice, (have also posted this on the shopping boards but no reply) have seen a Garmin Nuvi 205 refurb on the Halfords website for £69.99, just wondered if anyone had bought one (new or refurb) and what their thoughts were? Does being refurbished make a great difference in condition? Any thoughts appreciated, thanks!

I've a 205 and think its fantastic.
They're still slightly over £100 'new', so at £69.99 thats a good price - you'll still get a years warranty on the unit anyway.0 -
£10 less at Amazon, HERE. I bought a newly overhauled Garmin 350 and it was fine, although the loudspeaker did pack up after 10 months, returned to Garmin and fixed for nothing, they even gave me an extra free update on the maps. The only potential problem is that the unit may have been registered with Garmin already but if you call them they will sort that out too.0

Thanks to both of you, I had seen the same on Amazon but thought the years warranty would make it worth the extra £10 with Halfords, as if anything went wrong I wasn't sure if Garmin would help? Have heard their customer service is very good though.0

Have just re-read the Amazon website and realised it has a 12 month manufacturers warranty, bargain! Will order it now! Thanks again.0

A years map subscription is in the region of £55.
What maps subscription offer you getting with this refurb unit?
If it won't keep you going for a year your not really saving anything unless your happy using an older map.0 -
Thanks Adrian,
It has UK & ROI programmed onto it but no mention of subscritions, tbh it'd only really be for motorway driving so I don't think it'll be too terrible if they end up out of date - I hope anyway!0 -
You may or may not have the most up to date maps on the refurbished unit. However Garmin offer a 60 day Nu Map guarantee, if you regster on-line you can download the latest map free, only once though but they have just released a new version. More details HERE. This applies to refurb as well as new units and some people report getting the full UK and European maps via the freebie.0

I think that would solve the issue so long as the refurb unit's serial number has not already been registered.
Mines 2005 and I've never updated the map, it is quite out of date in places. The major road networks around Bodmin, Cornwall where I go each year is totally different... though I do know where I'm going anyway. Cannot bring myself to spend £69.99 (just checked) when a whole new similar spec. sat nav is £80-£1000 -
