Builders Final Invoice, now wants more money

We've had a major refurbishment and extension on our property which is now complete excpet for a few snags. We recieved the "final account invoice in regards to remaining works of contract completed and additional works" in early October. It was in two parts; we paid one half and have held back on paying the remainder (approx £4K) till the snags are rectified. We have now received another bill from the builder which is for "work not previously invoiced", he says this has come up after auditing his accounts. This new bill is a bit vague but totals around £15K.

Where do we stand on having to pay this? Surely a final invoice is what it says and if he has made an error in his accounts then that is not our problem?

Any advice/help would be much appreciated.

Did you have an up front contract outlining what was to be paid and when? Have you spoken to the builder about this, it may just be a mistake in his accounting procedure, ie, thinking you've not yet paid when you clearly have. If its not that then get him to explain exactly what it is for.
