aerials needed for old stereo

I was given an old technics stereo by someone - the cd player isn't working properly but the amp and speakers are grand:D, I was gonna just attach my nano. Anyway, no aerials so I tried to plug in an old tv one - doesn't fit. What is the name of the aerial I need then and also need the other wee wire one too. I just don't know where to look. Also I know maplins would do them but would end up spending a tenner I really can't afford. Thinking of visiting the council dump - does that sound mad?

Give us a bit more info - is the socket circular? Is it a different size or just a different gender compared with the old TV aerial?

I ask because I have an aerial here (from an old Technics tuner IIRC) and it has a plug like the one on a TV aerial, plus a gender changer to make it like a TV socket.

Typically for FM reception they were supplied with a plastic tape-style aerial in a T shape which you can pin to (for example) the back of a bookcase. They work fine in mid-high signal strength areas, but not in low strength areas where you need a directional aerial.

[Edit: the one that geewhiz points to is almost exactly the same as the one I have, except that the one on Ebay does not have the option to use spade terminals instead of a coax plug]

Bit more info please, besides the above, there was the 300 ohm flat ribbon type, with a small 2 pin plug.

    Like THIS.

BTW my venerable B&O Beomaster 5000 uses this type of plug irrespective of 75 ohm, 75 ohm attenuated or 300 ohm.

    Also you say
also need the other wee wire one too.
At a guess this is for the AM part of the radio so think coathanger will probably do.;)
    Move along, nothing to see.

I have a box of these of most types left over from cable tv installation days...take a pic of the socket and I'll post you one.
