  • I'm on an NHS course and managing very well fininancially. Just juggling the work load is hard. Previous poster was correct and there's also an additional single parents allowance within bursary award.

    Best of Luck.

You can claim housing/council tax benefit as a lone-parent student.

Depending on other income that you have from your student loan etc.

I said she could claim...not that she'd be entitled ;):D

Generally, though, most lone-parent students are entitled to something because much of the loans/grants available to them are disregarded in the HB assessment.

Not every body appreciates the difference; I agree that most lone parents get at least something.

From my experience none of my student bursary was disregarded except the childcare element so i was therfore entitled to nothing

Perhaps the rules are different for different authorities?

eta sorry a small part was disregarded for books etc
But even then it didn't make a difference

Nursing bursaries have very little disregarded - only a small amount for books/travel etc.
