Intercom

Options
Hey all

I live in a block of flats (8) which has a communal door. The door has intercom buzzer system for visitors to ring to be let in. I answer the buzz with a phone handset then press a button on handset to let them in.

Is there a way to easily disconnect the intercom? Without causing any permanent damage? It's rented accomodation. Can i just take handset off hook, or would this affect other people's intercoms?

I ask because twice now since I've lived here (3mths) I've been woken up in middle of night by someone ringing the buzzer for my flat when they have meant to ring one of my neighbours (and they ring and ring!). So I would like to disconnect it during certain times eg nights.

I do not expect to ever have any unknown visitors (all post/deliveries go to my parents address or work) so I could live without the intercom as anyone else who would visit me can just ring me to say they are outside.

Sorry if this is a really dull question!

TIA

  • take a look at your handset,it might just simply plug into the base..if not try to take the base apart, there might be a screw to undo, but most probly there will be some type of push clip top/botom on the base unit you will have to push in then this releases the cover...then disconect the handset wires only...but i suspect it will have a buzzer built into the base,if you canot dissconect the wires (might be soldered onto pcb)try putting bluetac over the buzzer...this should not effect anyone elses system

To tape over the buzzer button might be simplest.
