Funeral

Firstly apologies as not the most favourite topic. Regardless...it happens to us all.
I help my Mum (67) out with hers and my Dad's (67) finances and help her online.
She has asked my advice about Funeral plans. She want's to start one, she's seen the Age Concern one, and has asked for my advice. As I said to her, she needn't worry cos it'll be left to my brother and I. She doesn't want us or her estate paying for a funeral that has increased substantially in cost between Now and, hopefully, a long time in the future.
Has anyone had any dealings with these? She did mention life assurance however that doesn't guarantee a funeral price. Thanks
Chrissie

Looked at the idea but decided against, they don't cover everything and those I looked at charged £100 admin fee. This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0

My Dad had prepared for this and when he died a few years ago - everything was done and dusted.
All my brother had to do was gather the paperwork and go into the funeral directors where my Dad had already paid for everything and decided what he wanted as regards funeral arrangements etc. All my brother had to do was decide on a date and that was it.
Not a pleasant subject but no expense incurred by the family and no differences of opinion as of how Dad would have wanted his funeral being argued between the family.
I would recommend it!! It made a sad and difficult time so much easier all round for everyone.

my mil and fil both had prepaid funeral plans and when they died (2 years apart) it made everything so much easier. They had planned everything including the songs/hymns for the service. Once the paperwork was handed over and the date agreed the funeral home took over and everything was done for us. No fuss, no trying to agree an order for service, choose the cars ect.
I would say it was a godsend at was was a very difficult time.0 -
Yeah, I think it's a good idea, to be honest.
LinYou can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.0 -
Hi,
My FIL died earlier htis year and he had a funeral plan - made life much easier for MIL and my DH to organise and no money worries.
My Mum passed away last year and it really was a case of begging and borrowing until the estate was resolved nightmare. Much prefer the prepay option.

remember you can purchase your plot anytime from the council, you can leave a note with your wishes for the service really you dont need a funeral planing service, they could even leave a envelope of cash to cover the costs ...If it doesnt pay rent sell it.

The Age Concern plan seems to be the one that most people have been most satisfied with. At the moment I think it costs around £2,500 and isn't tied to a particular funeral director like some are..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Errata, - The age concern funeral plan is managed and run by Dignity which is one of the largest funeral companies in the UK. You can use a local funeral director but they will try and talk you out of it as they would prefer you to use one of their branches. Also it depends whether the local guy will take the funeral on at the amount of money they offer him, again so they can do the funeral themselves.
I totally agree the largest charity that looks after our seniors should be impartial and not tied to one company but that is just not the case I'm afraid.
If you want to be looked after by a local family owned firm for your funeral arrangements then contact them, they will be more than happy to help you. Please, please don't arrange a funeral over the phone with a faceless organisation.
Kind regards,
David
