Hi
I have worked for my company for 5 years, never had a warning, never had a disiplinary etc, no trouble. We are now to close by the end of January after the 3 months redundancy consultation. Im only due about £5000 in redundancy, they have quite a few perks apart from the normal 1 week per year which brings it up to this highish amount. However since we were due to close the managers/superviors have been on everyones back over things they had never mentioned in the previous 5 years, ever !. I feel they are trying to possibly get us on a warning etc and maybe even fired before the close of the office we work in, am I overreacting guys ?, would it be in their interest to get rid of me/anyone ?. They will exist across other sites in the uk, not gone bankrupt, just our office closing. This is my first experience of being made redundant, I would appreciate advice.
Thank you

I'm sure they'd love to sack you - it'd be infinitely cheaper. Keep your head down and your nose clean. January isn't that far away.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

i would also keep a diary of everything that goes on but keep it at home -wouldnt mention or discuss it with anyone else at work that you dont like the way they are treating you as some people will do anything to cover their own backside when push comes to shoveskintbint x

It could just be the stress of the whole redundancy thing - when people's behaviour changes, there is usually a personal reason
If they were to try the dismissal route, it's possible, but unlikely they'd get through the whole process within three months, anyway. Only Gross Misconduct amounts to instant dismissal, otherwise, they have to go through a fair process, including appeal etc, so three months is "tight" for all of that.
Try not to worry - my guess is that the managers are stressed too.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -

Too right.
I have worked for two companies that have been involved in large redundancies and believe me - it affects EVERYONE.
You will find colleagues who you thought you could trust telling tales to management in the hope they will be retained.
Everyone jockeys for position and the backstabbing is something else. It is an awful working environment and there is a lot of bitterness and resentment.
My ex employer was even checking emails and internet activity to try and find a breach of the company's IT policy to try and get rid of people 'on the cheap'.
Just be careful on that one as I think we are all guilty of browsing websites that are not work related or sending personal emails.0
