quick nationwide account question

I want to open a nationwide account so I can use there debit card when on holiday. Do I have to agree to get my salary paid into the account? All I really want to do is put money into the account before going away and then if I need extra cash I can withdraw it from cash machines.
I did think about getting the nationwide credit card, but I want to be able to withdraw cash as well as paying for purchases.
Thanks.

Hi Ts,
I have a nationwide account and it doesn't have my salary going into it. It does have a standing order from the nationwide joint account into this one thou of £300 very monthMonth June 06 current debt stands at: Loan with OH £20,000, Egg Card £7324 now £7191.00, Barclaycard £700, Overdraft was £2550 now £2400, Car Loan £297 a month finishes in Nov 06, £9.00 Savings, Piggysbank points 3700 -
There's no requirement to have your salary paid into the account.
You're automatically scored for the Nationwide credit card as part of the current account application*. If you score high enough, you'll be offered one.
* According to the CSA who completed my branch application - I don't know if the same applies to online applications.0 -
they didn't tell me this- saying that i didn't ask about credit cards. can i find out how i scored? if so how? when i applied they would only give me basic account because their silly computer would not accept my postcode and they had to set me up twice on computer- i ended up with 2 accounts! because their silly computer then after i left set it up! i had been at same address for years and good history etc. they upgraded it on appeal. even the women and manager couldn't understand it.You're automatically scored for the Nationwide credit card as part of the current account application. Hi,
I saw a reference to the Flex account in a travel forum and signed up for it just to get money abroad without charges. I applied online, didn't request a credit card, but won't be paying any monies in apart from those I pay in over the counter (ie 1 week before jetting off). They sent the form through 2 days ago for a signature which was sent back to them yesterday, so I'm presuming they're happy for me not to commit any money...
Re the credit card, I was asked about having one, but since I just wanted the money from abroad I didn't request one. If you weren't asked, and want to find your credit rating another thread on this site talks about obtaining free reports from experian etc.
Fantastic to avoid charges though!0 -

How long ago did you apply... before you recieved the paperwork ?0 -
billie19, when opening a/c's Nationwide seem to be slow with the paperwork. That was my experience at any rate and I've seen others saying the same. They do get there in the end however.
In the end, I did a phone application. At the end of the call, I was told I had scored high enough for a credit card and asked if I wanted one – I declined though as I already had a Nationwide CC!

Hi billie19,
Each day I start with a brand new wiped memory so I can't remember exactly - however it was during last week when I applied on-line for the form to arrive this week. It was quick for me, but if you're still waiting, or haven't applied, try a branch or ringing up? HJ. (I have a diary to write things in to remember, then forget to check it...)0
