It doesn't actually say, I had to read the introduction to see if it mentioned anything there, it's a paperback edition and has 640 pages, if thats any help, but I doubt it.

Hi. I've had my copy of Delia's Complete Cookery Course since the mid-80s and have just checked - there are no cheese straws :(. There are 698 pages and there are only about a dozen pages of photographs spread throughout the book.
There's no confectionary section, just one for cakes and one for scones and bisctuits.
    Hope this helps.

698 pages, I've been robbed,. I shouldn't complain really as I used to work in a book shop and one one of the perks was getting damaged books very, very cheap which this was.

Thank you it is a big help. :T mine has that too (the scones and biscuits is only four pages long excluding photos.)
Mine only has 576 including loads of photos to your 698 pages. Mine also says on the front that it contains over 450 recipes do you know how many yours has? But I think I have been diddled! :(

I think the only way is to compare recipe totals because the pages might have different size text etc.

OK, I now understand what you're asking :D I was given the Complete Cookery Course for my 21st birthday, and used it loads until it literally fell apart  I was then bought the Complete Illustrated to replace it. At that point I went throught the old book to tear out the missing recipes and put them into the new one. And do you know what - there are no missing recipes in the new edition, but more recipes added (I tore out only recipes that I'd annotated over the years ;) ).

The reason that there are fewer pages is that the new book is bigger :T

Hope this puts your mind at rest

Have you got the Classic one then???? :eek:How many recipes does it say it has????? :D I thought the same by the way so I paid more and got the one with piccies in it. I hope it wasn't a false economy.

The original version (with just a handful of photos) is a smaller size, so there would be more pages in that version, even if the two versions were identical.

The Illustrated version is not an exact copy of the original though. I understand that whilst many "classics" were kept, that some new recipes were added to make the book more "relevant for the 1990s".

I have both (don't ask ...) - cheese straws in neither, though.

When you find a recipe on the Delia website, it normally tells you which book it first appeared in. The only recipe I can find is for cheese twists - and no book is mentioned. So I guess she's done this one for the website, as it's not in the Christmas book either
    Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac ;)
