Co-op cashminder.....any good???

Hi i am going bankrupt soon and I have just opened a co-op cashminder account without any problems.

I was just wondering what people think of the new account?

Can you get online banking?

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks x

You can get online banking with this account.

Some people have problems using their debit cards in some retailers, as the card is recognised as an Electron, despite the card saying 'Visa Debit'. However, some stores are able to identify the card as Visa Debit though, due to the retailer updating their database.
  • In-a-Mess, Help! I contacted the Cooperative Bank on Wednesday to open a new account and still haven't heard from them . I'm beginning to assume I've been rejected. How long did it take you to receive your welcome pack, etc?

It takes a few days to get the welcome pack from the co-op. If you give them a ring they can tell you over the phone if you've been approved or not.
  • Hi - I applied for my cashminder account over the phone and was approved, subject to supplying a proof of my address. The very helpful lady said she would send out a welcome pack, and a form regarding how and where to send my bill / bank statement or whatever. Nothing had arrived 2 weeks later. I rang again and a very nice man said it must be due to the postal problems, and it was all being processed and would arrive.
It never did, so I rang again and was told that my application had now expired, and they needed to re-register my application which they did and I was accepted and about 10 days later (!) I received the confirmation letter and details of how to supply my proof of address, and as this required counter-signatures and you had to send originals in, it seemed much easier in the end to go into the bank with them (my nearest is a real pain to get to) But I went in with my passport and finally received my welcome pack, account number and debit card (all together on the same day!! - though the welcome pack did say my card would follow in a separate delivery for security reasons!!) about 8 days later.
So the whole process was incredibly slow and rather inefficient but we got there in the end, and its hard to get cross with the staff cos they really are lovely! I would advise you to just go in to apply, take your passport with you etc.
BTW I told them straight away that I was BR, they didnt bat an eyelid.
    Good luck!!!!!!!
  • Well, Stressed & Confused, it's Monday now and I've still not heard a thing. I've been on my feet since 7am today and just got home so I haven't had a chance to do anything about it. However, I think I must phone tomorrow and chase up my application having read about your experience.
