query tesco and their special offers

Options
Hi, i wondered if anyone knows my rights as a consumer.

i bought some meat in tesco on special offer in the 3 for £10 section, i picked up 3 packets and put them in my trolly.

when i got home i realised that one of the packs was part of their 2 for £10.
I have asked tesco if i could purchase 1 more each of the 3 for £10 and 2 for £10 and they said i couldnt.

If you could let me know where i stand it would be appreciated. thanks andy

I made a similar mistake once and the cs desk were more than happy to help out. I went away with more goods and they had more money in the till. Everybody happy. It is what is called good customer service. Perhaps your local store is somewhat lacking.

This happened to me in Morrisons and I would not be surprised if it is a deliberate ploy.

Morrisons had tins of chopped tomatoes for 3 for £1.

But only on the normal chopped tomatoes.

Not the Chopped tomatoes (then in very small print underneath "with garlic")

So picked up 3 and as I went out realised 2 were showing up at 56p and one at 59p.

I had picked up a with garlic by mistake.

    always check.

You should always check whether what you pick up is actually included in the offer,
  • I'm fed up getting done at stores with that type of thing. At Asda the other night we got done with a 3 for £5 sandwich meats offer, when we got home we realised we had been charged individually for them, yes I could go back but it's 20 odd miles away and the loss is about £1.50 or something
  • "Ialwaysgetdone" - then more fool you I'm afraid. If you think that you always get done, then why are you not taking more care and paying more attention!

Tip for you: If you decide to pick up a multibuy - ensure that all the items are together at the till and ask the person on the till to put them through first to confirm the offer is on. Alternatively, check your till receipt before you leave the store.

I quite often take the store up on their offers but exercise caution doing so - I don't blindly pick things off the shelf, and I'm generally on the look out for "foreign items" - i.e. those that other customers have discarded on the multi-buy shelf. Quite often what happens, someone is quietly filling their basket as they go round, pick up some tomatoes from the tomatoes aisle, go and collect some pasta before coming across an offer on chopped tomatoes on the end of another aisle - customer decides that he'll have some of those, but cannot be bothered in walking the original tomatoes back to their rightful home so dumps them on the shelf with the offer tomatoes. It's not always the store that is fault, your fellow customers can be to blame too!
