When will TCO ask for overpayment back?

We have been overpaid tax credits again this year (05-06) and Im wondering how long it will take the TCO to ask for the money back?
Last year, they sent a letter stating the total overpayment, soon after I sent in the declaration (August time). It took another 8 months before the actual demand for payment arrived. the year before that, it was a 12 month delay so it seems like they are catching up the back log.
how long has everyone else "had" to wait before paying the money back. I am waiting for OHs income tax rebate from last year to pay this off, ironically, so I am in no hurry.

all depends on the total o/pmt and what you ARE entitled to in this year.
award = £547pa...they will stop pmts to you and divert the money to pay off the o/pmt in full
any other award will mean some reduction in regular pmt amounts so you get most of the weekly/monthly award and tco get a bit too
if you are entitled to NIL then you just need to wait for the Notice To Pay.fatblokexl:EasterBun:0 -
Yes, Im waiting for the notice to pay -we arent entitled to anything - just wondering how long it takes the system to generate it.
Id be very grateful if you could advise on another point.
my final award notice for 05-06 shows the following figures for the overpayment:
Part 3 Payments.
Child tax credit £45.63
Total tax credits £43.63
Less
Payments already made by us £4428.80
Payments made by your employer £541.62
Amount of overpayment already collected from payments made so far £318.72
Amount due -£5243.51 (ie the total of the three above figures)
....
Now the payments seem correct (give or take a £1) when compared with bank statements.
However, the repayments that I have already made (for the previous years overpayment) have also been added to this to total the sum they say I owe.
I dont understand the logic in this, why are they adding my repayments to the debt?0 -
At a wild guess, because they are totally incompetant! Write to them and query it!
Think how their office works - some junior prat has probably done the calculations and got them wrong. I dread to think how much benefit claimants subsidise the state in this way..........:mad:Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0
