For some strange reason today, the fuse for the wind screen wipers in my Ford Escort decided to blow. I stopped and replaced it and then they worked for about 15 minutes and then the fuse blew again. Change the fuse again, worked for 15 minutes, fuse blew. I changed the fuse again, worked twice and then blew.I did this about 8-9 times again, and exactly the same thing happened.
Any mechanics out there who may be able to offer some advice? I would be very grateful!
cheers

Try a fuse one grade (typically 5 amps) higher.
Worked for me (on an Audi quattro) and effected a permanent cure.
Sometimes, as it gets get older, the wiper motor finds life harder and draws a little more power: that can be just enough to push it past the point at which it will blow the recommended fuse. Going one grade higher can fix it, safely.
Worth trying, before embarking on anything more expensive; it costs only pence and may be all you need.
If, moreover, it blows a higher amperage fuse, you know it's trouble but you won't have damaged anything in the process of finding that out.
(Putting a thick piece of metal in the fuse holder, instead, is not advisable.)

I did try that earlier on and went up to a 25 amp fuse, but it didnt work. Will look at it tomorrow when it's not raining. Thanks for your reply.Matched betting proceeds so far: £505.000 -
Could be water getting into the wiring, then.
Good luck.

Do the wipers work on intermittent and park properly in the short time that they do work. If not it could be the relay, the next cheap component to try replacing. You could alos try the age old WD40 on the connector to the motor to drive out any water. Unless anyone else advises other wise.
