Broken Motherboard

Options
OH bought a "barebones" Shuttle PC 16 months ago from an internet firm. Last night the Motherboard failed. Have we any rights to get it replaced for free as surely 16 months is hardly a long time and is it not " fit for purpose"? Any thoughts or advice please would be very helpful.

No it was Microdirect Ltd. We have yet to approach them but wanted to get an idea of consumer rights before we rang them

I had issues with a mobo in a pc i bought from PCSpecialist.
They replaced it with a different brand and it was used too.
I contacted my trading standards office and they said it should be replaced with a mobo of the same type and it should be new. They advised that i could accept the used mobo in an effort to get the pc working again or i could pursue the shop for a new board through the small claims court.
I decided to accept the used mobo but in subsequent emails with pcspecialist i vowed never to use them again because of their attitude and non-compliance with the law. They stated my warranty was with ASUS, not them (wrong) they were not responsible for postage of returning broken mobo (wrong) and that they were not obliged to anything (wrong). And that was despite me quoting my trading standards emails, and sale of goods act.
PC Specialist don't know the law and don't comply with it so if you decide to buy a new machine, don't use them.
