Netto are doing a full size acoustic guitar instore for £19.99 would be good enough for a beginner instrument.
  • £20 guitars are nightmares for going out of tune at the first sneeze. You could ask at charity shops - they get the school children's ones when they get bored (or parents find out high school lessons are 3 times the price of primary ones). They would probably be happy with £20 for most of them.

The odds are that he will get bored with it within a few weeks (the sore fingertips and hand cramps tend to put beginners off) and it will end up on the wall or in the loft until it goes to the charity shop.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

  • in my opinion i would say that a keyboard would be cheaper as if you were to buy an electric guitar you would also have to purchase an amp aswell. but i'm sure you can get really cheap guitars and amps off ebay and such (although they would not be a very good standard of guitar) it would be great for a beginner and most amps now-a-days have a socket for headphones
