Egg Money Question

Hi,

Does anyone with an Egg Money card know how I can transfer a positive balance to my bank account? I've had a hunt around online but can't find the option.

Cheers,

Lee.

    Hi Lee

Just telephone Egg and request a BACS transfer. They should already hold your main current account details. I'm a recent Egg customer and I've done that successfully twice.

    Regards

Taken from Egg money website. this is the way I have done it (by secure message ). egg will email you back to confirm when transaction has taken place

    Transferring money to other accounts

You can do this either by phone on 08451 233 233, or by sending us a secure message. You should quote your Egg Money account number and the account number and sort code of the account you'd like to transfer to.

The account you are transferring to must be in your name or the name of your additional cardholder.

A transfer from your Egg Money account takes up to four working days to clear into your other account.

To send us a secure message, you just need to select the option to 'View your messages or send us a message' found under the 'Your money' tab, and follow the on-screen instructions.

Cheers carly [EDIT: and cb1964]. I remeber reading posts when the card first came out that you could ring them to do it but I hoped that by now they would have had an option online for it. At least you can do it by secure message though.

    Cheers

Yes it is there. You go to 'view' Egg Money from the main page and then click on 'Egg Money admin' link on the left hand side. The last option is 'Transfer a balance'. (I was foxed too until it was pointed out to me!)

BTW - I've asked for a transfer over the phone - thinking this might go through as a mythical BACS (but not as a 'balance transfer') to see if I can get the cashback as other have reported doing. I hoped by asking them to move the money to a non-current account - my ING direct - that this would be processed differently from a balance transfer - but on Egg Money's transactions screen it does appear as a 'Balance transfer'. So my query (it could be useful in general) is: Has anyone else tried to do a conventional 'super balance transfer' from Egg or Egg Money to a non-current account? Remember, that they always ask you to provide your account details at the time of the request - it can't be pre-stored in your Accounts address book, for instance - so you could give any account it appears - not simply restricted to a current account. (Anyone else able to confirm doing an SBT of this type?)

    Thanks M

    Hi Milarky,

Several stoozers on the stoozing website have reported successfully BT'ing directly from a savings account. However, I've seen it posted (I think on the stoozing site and on the Fool) that Egg sometimes contact you by secure message/telephone to confirm the transaction is genuine if the SBT is not from the current account you make your DD payments from.

For this reason, and because I prefer to keep 'under their radar', I personally won't SBT from anywhere but my linked DD current account. I'm happy to accept the occupational hazard of 2-3 days lost interest.

    Thanks for the tips guys.

I sent them a secure message on Thu requesting the transfer including the bank account details (same one as my direct debit).

I got a really garbled response about charging me interest and only being able to transfer £167.20 to my external account.

I think they have mixed my account up with someone else's. I've given them a call this morning to explain the situation so fingers crossed the transfer should be underway.

The lady that I spoke to could not explain why I had the response that I did and I'm a bit concerned now that they might end up doing more than one transfer. I've logged a complaint and asked for a full explanation. Don’t get me wrong, I know mistakes happen and I’m not moaning about it, I just want it confirmed that they are only doing one transfer and there is not some sort of weird problem with my account!

Just to confirm that it has worked. This would also suggest that you could sumit the details online yourself - just by completing the usual boxes on the transfer a balance screen - provided that your savings account follows the same conventions as a current account
    AC NO: [xxxxxxxx]
    SORT CODE: [xx=xx=xx], and
    NAME: [A Smith]
and that Egg has no way of checking the precise status of the account. [Yes I know it's supposedly a balance transfer and that means 'overdraft' which you can't have on a savings account but surely it is nice to know that this will work - provided it is to an account in your name]

Thanks for that Milarky  . From my recent experience, it will be much safer and easier to do the transfer online than to request that egg do it via secure messaging.

  • I'm interested to hear that Egg have agreed to transfer a positive balance from the Egg Money Card to a current account.

I currently have a positive balance on my Egg Card (not the Money Card but I also do have one of them) but Egg are refusing to refund this positive balance back to my current account without applying a 2.5% balance transfer fee.

When I made the initial request they were obviously confused because they have transferred some of the balance but not all. Now they are refusing to do the rest.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

I don't have the egg card, but with egg money you are certainly allowed to transfer your +'ve balance without any fees. I can't see why this should be a problem with the egg card either though! According to an earlier post, you can do the transfer your self through the admin pages - have you tried this?

    Cheers,

    Lee.
