How can people be so pessimistic all the time?

I think now is time to quote the best ever joke from sickipeadia (http://www.sickipedia.org/)
"Statistically... 9 out of 10 people enjoy gang rape."
Bascially sums up this thread.0 -
As an aside to this fascinating and in no way pointless thread, if you take a group of people suffering with depression and a group which are not and compare how likely they think bad things are to happen to them (unemployment, death of a loved one, chronic illness), depressed people are more likely to get the odds right.
Thats actually quite interesting.:money:“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

Just that it is good for "everyone".
I challenge you to find a single instance of where I have stated double digit HPI is good for every single person, with no caveats or qualifications.
Out of around 2600 posts on hpc, and around 1750 here, I don't recall ever saying that.
I say plenty that is controversial..... So it's a bit lazy of you to just make !!!!!! up when all my posts are searchable.
If you really want to attack my positions, at least try to use something accurate.....“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

The WHOLE of North Scotland are "positively" effected are they????
No qualification, no caveat.
I rest my case.0 -

Is that seriously the best you can do?
That was a direct quote from the article you muppet!!!!!!!!“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

These people will never have the bulls to buy a home as the debt scares the living daylights out of them - basically very little idea of how finance really works. Therefore home ownership will be nothing more then a dream for these people.
Or cleverly saving enough money as a deposit to live the life of Riley with your tiny mortgage. THAT to me is clever.0 -
Along a similar line to Generali.
I have a book all about chance event, and what luck really means.
Now most of us have been on airplane flights yeah? And we all know the safety advice / briefing. This covers what to do in the event of an emergency.
The book showed that people who take events into their own hands are more likely to survive than those who remain fixed. This is open to challenge, but it's about shaping your own destiny.
My view on the whole HPI thing, is its just a !!!!!!! house at the end of the day. Somewhere to live. Get over it. I don't recall too many lads getting lucky in the clubs by suggesting the girl come and 'check out my maisonette'.
When the HPI thing becomes a herd phenomena is the time to worry. Bubbles are driven by human sentiment.
Oh, forgot to mention, NOW is the time to get into rolexes
You heard it here first....0 -
Maybe the posts you're referring to (that seek out doom/gloom stories) are actually posting so others may find the stories.
YOU, I would suggest, are perceiving them to be pessimistic.
Does this mean therefore that YOU are the pessimistic person that you're posting against?0 -
It's not unreasonable for people being a little pessimistic at the moment.
The economic outlook is by no means certain.
The political scene is a mess frankly, with squalid squabbling over expenses.
And, for some reason I have never fathomed, companies often seem to announce redundancies just before Xmas. Why? For heavens sake.
Pessimism exists? Yes. Understandable? Hell yeah.0
