Can I salvage muffins?

I have just taken a batch of double chocolate chip muffins out of the oven. Halfway through baking I realised I had FORGOT TO PUT THE SUGAR IN......it was too late to do anything other than let them cook...:o
I have tasted them and there is no hint of sweetness whatsover and I've been a bit tight with the chips so they aren't helping. Is there anything I can do so as not to waste them such as making them into crumbs for a recipe so I can add some sugar. Help please!!!

  • What about making them into butterfly muffins, with some chocolate buttercream or something?

Use them as the bottom layer in a trifle (might be nice with sweetened oranges and orange jelly on top)?
Serve them hot as chocolate pudding with over-sweetened custard to compensate?
Mix them into a HM cookies and cream type icecream?
  • make a hole i them and put a big blob of choc spread in

You could try serving them with hot custard, that saves many a desert disaster.

Or chocolate muffins with sliced ripe bananas and hot custard!!

Process them down into crumbs and use to make chocolate truffles.

Black cherry trifle....use them instead of the sponge with grated choccie on top of the cream layer!

    Mocha tiramasu.

Caramelised crumb ice cream........with chocolate cake crumbs instead of the traditional brown breadcrumbs!

You can always freeze some and use them up closer to Christmas
  • Thanks for all your suggestions...definitely something there I could do. It will have to be something where I add sugar to the crumbs as the original recipe had some salt in it and so they taste more savoury than sweet and would be awful if I just put some choc spread or cream in!!!

...or with chilli con carne .....a little chocolate is supposed to enhance that dish .................. sort of a la Hester Blumenthal "Chilli con carne with savoury chocolate croutes"

    :rotfl:
  • You could make cake balls with them?
I saw them on a recipe site once, I think you use a baked cake/muffin or whatever, make it into crumbs, then mix frosting with it, and then coat it in melted chocolate?
If you google 'cake balls' it shows I didn't dream that!

Perhaps you could make a chocolate sauce and serve them drizzled in chocolate sauce and cream or something? Do you have kids? Just that mine will normally eat anything thats chocolate - so perhaps a really sweet choc sauce......
