Repairing tears in carpet?
I've been searching around the net trying to find a solution to my problem but am not having much luck!
The previous owner of my car has torn the carpet on the driver's side where they had been wearing high heels without car mats. There are 2-3 tears, all around 3-4" long.
I'm trying to work out the best way of repairing these but struggling to come up with a solution. I think that stitching the carpet back together would cause them to tear again as I'm under the impression that a tiny amount of carpet has disappeared where it has worn with the tear (pulling the edges together is quite tight).
Does anybody have any suggestions, or if not where I could get this repaired in the Poole/Dorset area?
Thanks a lot
Chris

Other than attempting to sew it, stick it (either with glue or strong sticky tape on the rear) or perhaps patch it, there's not a lot you can do. It's probably never going to look very good and may not last very long depending on where any join/repair is.
The best solution might be to get a replacement carpet & fit."Now to trolling as a concept. .... I know you didn't come here to get a reply like the one I am about to give so I apologise in advance......
Does it really matter? Put some floor mats down and you won't see the torn carpet.0 -
Tape up the tears and fir carpet mats or rubber mats. The man without a signature.0

Getting the carpet replaced would be quite costly on modern cars. You have to remove all the seats and lots of bits of trim. Get some mats, some nice once for £50 (getting the carpet replaced or repaired properly would cost much much more) stick em down and forget about it0

you can get exact fit mats from a few guys on ebay, they are made to measure, they fit exactly like the genuine mats at half the price.they come in rubber or different shades of carpet material.
i got a set for my focus after my original ford ones were a bit past it, they look just as good as the originals. its much cheaper than a full new interior carpet aswell....work permit granted!0 -
Hi guys
Thanks for the replies.
In response, I'm not bothered by the tears or their appearance - I've actually got a mat over them already. The only thing that I'm concerned about is that the tears are enlarging over time and wanted to stunt that.
Is there a specific fabric tape that any of you could recommend?
Thanks again for your advice.

Carpet tape.
Look for single sided, but double sided will do either don't remove the other side or remove it and sprinkle it with talcum powder.
B&Q sell it.0 -
I have found that duct tape does not stick well to carpet (being really sticky and strong I thought it would).0
