Dirt cheap printer!

Hello,

I need to find a cheap printer that I can use just for printing black and white documents.

It would be great if the ink cartridges were cheap as well, has anyone got any recommendations please

Thank you

Can't really recommend one as I have a photo printer but avoid the cheapest brands like Lexmark, who's cartridges are very expensive, sometimes more than the initial cost of the printer. Check out the cost of the replacement cartridges and other manufactures compatibles for the different makes before you buy or if you can stretch to it, go for a laser printer.

I'll move this thread over to the 'Techie Stuff' board, where it should get more views and responses.

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. Goto your Post office, a large one, not a shop with a small PO.

They have lexmark ones for about £20.

Failing that goto a large Tesco or Sainsbury saver centre.

Make sure they come with ink though.

There are compatible (remanufactured) cartridges out there that reduce the cost of ink cartridges (if you don't want to stick with genuine brands) significantly for popular models such as Epson, HP.

You don't say if you are going to be printing alot of documents, but as you have suggested you might go for a laser printer then it would seem that you will be printing more than a few documents per year. Laser printers (plus toners and drums) are quite expensive to purchase to start with, but they will print off more pages per cartridge than normal inkjet cartridges and they will not dry up as they are in powder form.

Look on here for an offer that I have posted before and is still on:
Samsung ML1610 Laser Printer from as little as c£48.48 (after cashback)

I bought a Canon Pixma IP1000 ages back for around £30

it's been faultless so far, prints beautifully, and best of all, refills can be had for just over a pound a shot :)

Tesco have a canon all-in-one thingy (printer, scanner, card usb etc) for I think £60 atm as well, looks like a good buy (almost got one this afternoon, but had the missus with). can't see the ink for that being too expensive either. 'compatible' Canon ink seems to be pretty reasonably priced all over.
