skills matrix

Hi, where I work 80 staff were put on notice of redundancy. Skills matrix was applied and now 40 staff are safe and 40 are in danger of redundancy with 30 day consultation. Skills matrix was applied. But it was the same matrix for all staff, but the staff were split into four groups and each group was scored by a different person. All of the groups do the same job. Surely this is not a fair process because four people cannot score in the same way. We feel that we should have all been scored by the same person to be judged in the same way. Are there any legal guidelines on this?

Get your elected reps to review all the scores to look for any discrepanies across the groups.
This is one reason there is a consultation period to make sure that everything has been done to reduce the impact and make sure the selection process is fair and the correct people are chosen.0 -
Whatever way they do it someone wont be happy.
At least they are trying to be fair..Not Again0 -
You state all of the selection pool do the same job, but do they all have the same manager/line manager/supervisor?
The objective criteria on the matrix will likely be scored by a member of your HR department and can be verified by sickness/absence/disciplinary records etc.
The subjective sections should be scored by a person who will be familiar with the employees performance - usually a department manager.
If someone is scoring the subjective section on a matrix, to ensure fairness, that person should have been trained in the redundancy process and be familiar with an affected persons perfomance.0
