We are about to get a new bedroom carpet, but need underlay. Can anyone recommend somewhere to buy online? Room is approx 3.4m x5m (although only 5m for 800mm, rest approx 4.2)
We are looking at a 30 or 40oz 80% wool carpet

Anyone?
I am leaning towards cloud 9 cirrus, but what is the difference between a PU underlay and a waffle one? (apart from the obvious they are diff materials etc, which is better for use on a floorboard floor with a 80/20 wool carpet on top, for use in a bedroom (minimal heavy furniture will be going on top-a solid wood bed, small bedside cabinets and a chest of drawers)

I agonised for ages and ended up with duralay hallmark. Mine came from Carpets Direct but enter duralay hallmark into google and many suppliers will appear. My spec for surfaces was much the same as yours. I reviewed all the comments I could get and rejected cloud 9 (but can't remember why).
My choice was a good heavyweight so great for insulation, and a year on we have been really pleased with the choice. We saved even more by laying it ourselves and even fitted the gripper rods and saved a fortune on Carpetright's prices. Piece of cake! We did use a staple gun here and there but this does not appear vital as long as it is laid as big pieces0 -
We just bought carpet for stairs and landing and main bedroom from Carpetright. I went in there armed with all my knowledge from MSE and my salesman husband. We ended up negotiating a great deal IMHO. I mentioned the internet underlay being so cheap....
We have ended up paying £120 for equivalent underlay and grippers for 15sqm bedrom and 10sqm stairs and landing . Free delivery. It was still 50% and 20% off there and OH continued to haggle so got c£40 carpet at £15.99 sqm (I know it's not actually £40 to start with BTW!) £77 for fitting the lot. I was not going to be fitting the underlay and grippers myself so am really chuffed! Total £619 for 100% heavyweight polypropelyne (messy family and want to be able to bleach!)There are times when parenthood seems nothing but feeding the mouth that bites you Peter De VriesDebt free by 40 (27/11/2016)0 -

Thanks
We used Cloud 9 Cirrus and got it from here. We had a whole house to carpet and for the amount of underlay we required they were the best deal, also great service. If you google Cloud 9 Cirrus you can compare prices and work out what is best for you.
We have it on floorboards in our bedroom (solid floors downstairs) with 80/20 carpet and have no problems. OH went round identifying any creaks/squeaks with floorboards first and screwed them down where necessary. He also removed any floorboards where any CH pipes were noisy, packed hair felt around pipes then replaced floorboards - once your carpet is down you wont want to be lifting it for any annoying noises afterwards.0
