Chocolate Stains on Clothes

Can anyone help me with how to get marks from chocolate ice cream out of children's clothes? Normal soaking and washing doesn't seem to work, and I'm loathe to write of yet another t-shirt to the ice cream stain monster!

This is a long shot and I don't know if it works with choc ice cream but it works with spag bol. Once washed hang out on washing line on a hot sunny day - like today and the sun bleaches it off. My kids clothes always get covered in spag bol and if I put them in the tumble dryer it doesn't come off but on the washing line it does. Someone probably has a scientific reason but unfortunately not me.

OH (age 49:rolleyes: ) managed to get chocolate icecream all down his T-shirt last week. Normal wash didn't bring it out, but soaking it in a solution of soda crystals and then re-washing did the trick. Anyone know where I can get adult-sized bibs?!

UV light bleaches organic stains, that why tomato based sauces (and breastfed baby poo!) come out if you leave the t shirt (or nappy) in the sun :)

my son had loads of choc ice cream all down his blue and white shirt!

it had dried on and so i put some stardrops on it,left it for 5 mins then put in the wash as normal

    it all disappeared :)

if in doubt use stardrops 9 times out of 10 it will work lol

ive used it as a stain treatment on grass / mud stains with the same results too :)

I almost posted this question myself. I tried the Stardrops and soda crystals but I've still got choc ice cream marks on my son's top. It looks like a white shirt with a t-shirt over it but it's actually all in one. I was trying to find a way to dip the bottom part in bleach but I'm bothered it would travel up to the colour and ruin it forever. I might try it on the line again whilst the sun is hot.

The sunlight trick is one I often use (when I get the chance). My daughter got something on her with t-shirt over the winter which won't wash out so I waiting until we got the sunny days and just let the sun bleach it out. From the look of it, that was chocolate.

I've done a search (several) for an answer, but haven't found an answer. Apologies if this has been asked before, but 4 good kids tops have been ruined by them managing to spill very dark choc ice cream on them.
After several washes and treatment with liquid detergent, borax and a few propietry stain removers, the stains just won't shift.
Can anybody suggest something that's worked for them?
  • Chocolate ice cream is a nightmare to remove. If the tops are white I usually soak in bleach as thats the only way it has come out for me. Sorry I can't be of more help.
