    I would go down the loose connection route tbh. The fact its moved about a fair bit pins it down a little. The fiddling with the battery and the power connector means your moving it about between reboots which could mean the loose connection is falling back into place.
    As for fixing it it could be easy could be a nightmare. Depends on how brave you are, bearing in mind it could be very poorly to play about yourself unless you feel comfortable with a screwdriver. My first option would be to check the cable from the main body to the screen and also the switch built into the hinge that turns the screen on and off. All model differ so I can't be specific sorry.
    Try the external screen first though.
