Credit card rejections

Brief history:
My ex got in vast amounts of debt. Used a bank account we had together for his own purposes and murdered the credit rating (my card was never used and no transactions ever made in my name). We split up. All my own accounts are paid to date/in credit/healthy. All accounts associated with my ex are entirely screwed up.
I've been rejected on 2 credit cards I've applied for (inc the poor credit Barclaycard) which means I'm completely up the creek without a paddle, yet my own credit scoring, when disassociated, shows I pay everything off but no debts.

I have got a credit card which has actually been in £5 credit for about 5 years but they reduced the credit limit. If I keep using that and avoid all others will it help in the quest for repairing the damage done by my ex?

Should I apply for the Vanquis or avoid more footprints?

I need to remortgage at the end of next year so I have 12 months to turn my credit around and frankly I don't have a clue!

Obsessing about remortgaging and interest rates all day, every day:)

  • My personal choice would be to use the existing card that you have. Use it every month for a couple of purchases, and pay it off in full. You will be rewarded in the long term.

As for applying for a vanquis, if you were accepted do the same thing here. I wouldnt be applying for a vanquis card until you have spent a couple of months on good behaviour with your exisiting card.
When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.

    Thankyou.
I decided to open a new cash account with a catalogue, which I hope to turn into a credit account over some time and paid it with my credit card.
Just got to get into the habit of paying it every month.
