Hi

Got chance to repair a cat d total loss, have all paperwork etc but do i need to send log book to DVLA to get the fact it was written off on it?

Is it right that a cat d write off only needs repairing and then a new MOT and does not need to go to VOSA(?) for inspection?

Have read a couple of forums where they mention if you pay for a £200 incpection on catd you can get it removed from register, is that correct?

Thanks

I don't know about the inspection to get the cat D removed, if you find out will you please let me know?
You don't need to send the log book off or take the car to vosa, just repair and mot the vehicle an it can go straight back on the road
  • Category D can be as simple as a minor bump. You cannot have this status removed from its insurance history.

You can't remove a cat. D. Once a car has been written off, it's been written off. i.e. insurance has paid out as total loss.

However, for cat. D vehicles you don't need to have the vehicle checked checked by VOSA. Repair the vehicle, or don't even do that if it's still roadworthy.

I've even heard of cars where they're just a few months old and some scumbag keys the full length of the car. The insurance (for whatever reason) has replaced the car presumably on the grounds that it's just a few months or weeks old.

In that case it's obviously not uneconomic but that would go down as a cat d too.

    This is simply wrong.

You can remove the Cat D quite legally from the HPi database. However best case scenario is thae car is registered Inspected repaired as opposed to Cat D.

The vehicle needs to be inspected by Autolign which is an MOT and some. This removed the Cat D status of the vehicle and reclisssifies it as roadworthy and repaired to a high enough standard to be so. I;ve done it on a classic vehicle that was written off due to costs of bodywork repair due to vandalism.

I think Premier's advice was fairly correct, the OP asked if they could remove the Cat D off the log book and Premier confirmed it was not possible.

The company you have posted remove it from the HPI database and not the DVLA, having said that it will still be noted on the HPI database but will be noted as the work being carried out correctly. This could possibly still affect the value as might affect the view of some buyers / traders

It's category D status is removed completely, from log books, Hpi and whatever else it may be attached to. As I explained it is recorded as "repaired Inspected" and no longer "Categorised".
