What to do about letter?!

Options
Hi all,
This problem is somewhat home related as it concerns my address, so I'm posting it here as it seems as good a place as any to ask for some wisdom.

I've recently started receiving letters addressed to somebody who does not live at my address and I've never heard of. I've been at my place over five years now and have never had any other mail addressed to this person. I'm fairly certain it's not one of the previous residents.
I'm sure this has affected others and I'm uncertain what I should do. Should I bin them or keep them or open them to see who they are from or send them back where they came from?
Anyone got any firm advice on what you a supposed to do in this situation.
Your help would be much appreciated.
ps. I'm slightly concerned this is a bank chasing a debter and they have used my address.

Send the letter back stating "not known at this address" on it in large cap's
Register with mail preferance service's MPS
Then if it continues complain to them.

Look up the name in the phone book or on BT.com and i will put money on it the post code is a letter out that sounds the same EG SL6 8LN and SL6 8LM, and the same house number as yours but at a house on another street.
i have it all the time with my "B" and "D" in our post code
Spending my time reading how to fix PC's,instead of looking at Facebook.

If you are worried someone is using your address, open the post - it isn't illegal to do so, although many people will tell you it is.

If necessary, contact the companies and explain that the person has never lived there.
