Macbook 4gb RAM upgrade problem

Hi,
I bought a Macbook from John Lewis about a year ago, I recently went to upgrade to 4gb of RAM which the according to Apple's online specification it accepts, however I can only upgrade one of the RAM sticks, if I try both RAM sticks together they will not work i.e the Macbook wont boot. So the maximum I can get is only 2.5gb of RAM. I have one at a time so no dud ram stick and I have tried both ram slots differently.
What can I do about getting this resolved?
Thanks,
Mark.

I forgot to add the model number MB402LL/A0

Are you sure you're seating the 2nd stick correctly?0
-
yes i am 100% sure i have tried seating them many times.0
-
So you're saying that only one of the memory slots is working, have you tried testing a single stick in each of the two slots?0

i have tried single stick and combining with one of the older sticks which both work, but when I try the new sticks to together it doesnt work.0

I'm not sure then, maybe you're better off enquiring on one of the many Macbook forums out there, it may be some peculiarity with the model or the type of memory you purchased.
If there is a fault I can't see you'll have any issues with John Lewis, especially as you should have a 2yr warranty with them.0 -
If its been less than a year since you bought (or you bought 3yr Apple care) and you are near to an Apple Store then book a genius appointment and they should hopefully either fix the problem there and then or give you a replacement.
If its out of the year (or you don't live near an Apple store) then you will have to return it to John Lewis I would have thought and they will probably sent it off for repair.0 -
Where did you get the ram from and are you sure it's guaranteed to work with macs - they can be a little picky?0

I have PNY RAM which is good quality ram. the macbook will accept one with one of the original sticks (512gb) but not with the other 2gb PNY RAM so its nothing to with it not working with macs. One of the reviews even says that they used it with a mac.

Go to
apple.com/support and ask that forum. There are some very knowledgeable Mac users who post there. If it's still in warranty, go to Apple.0
