    Hi Clare

Whilst you are waitign for more knowledgeble people to answer you could look on http://www.bailiffadviceonline.co.uk/ for some answers.

An obvious question possibly but do you agree you owe council tax?

    Hi

See if Herbie21 is around - send her a pm. if they have not actually seen the car, i do not think they can levy, but Herbie21 is the expert
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
  • yes i know i owe it, yesterday they finally awarded me full rate council tax benefit but only for the last 2 weeks, i have to appeal for the backdateing to july but cant do that until i recieve the letter to say they have refused the backdate. i want the council to take back the debt and me pay them in installments

As terrible as it sounds, park the car around the corner/another street for a bit?! If you need it to get to work.... it's not going to work long term and will probably be stressful/worrying but until you get some proper advice!! :)

    Hi

    The fees are probably illegal.

Right now you have explained the situation, I want you to get on your local council web-site and finfd out who your local councillor is (you may have more then one). Then find out when they have their next surgery and where, Often this is at the weekend.

You need to take all the documents you have and go and see them. I expect that they will be able to halt the bailiffs for a week in the first instance and to then get the Council to review the Liability order and call off the bailiffs.

Re the probably illegal levy and the illegal charges, please get hold of Herbie21, as she eats bailiffs for breakfast. Even if her pmbox is full she will get an e-mail to say you are looking for her.

i have to go shortly, so promise to follow up with the councillor tonight? We have found them very very effective at sorting their revenue collection folk out in the past.

And make sure you tell him about the illegla levy and the charges.
