Travel insurance for over 65s

Hi  I did post this in the insurrance board but no-one seemed to be able to help so though you lot would be the next port of call :D

My grandad is going to america for 14 nights in september and needs some insurance. He got quoted a stupid £147 with age concern  so I said I would scout round for him.

The cheapest I have found is with atlas at £45.03 and was wondering if anyone with a bit more knowhow can beat this quote :) It seems all the comapnies catered for the over 65s are extorsionate.

oh and he will be 70 on date of return and he needs £10M for medical expences.

Thank you :)

I work for Age Concern in the insurances and deal with all ages. If your grandad is 69 when he books, the price indication for 10 - 17 days is £110.70. Please remember that the older people get the more likelihood there is that something can go wrong. Your grandad may be the fittest 69 year old in the country but the fact still remains that as we get older we are more likely to have problems that require treatment. Also, when you are touting around for a cheaper quote, have you considered what those cheaper insurances will cover, if they are needed? Have you had a chance to read the small print? If you haven't considered any of the above, I would seriously think about getting the relevant documents from the companies you are considering and taking the time to read them. I know it's tedious but USA particularly is not a country to be without sufficient insurance cover. All the best.

I would steer clear of age concern they are expensive and also it is hard to claim from them.

my parents booked there holiday insurance with http://www.direct-travel.co.uk/ it was cheap and they had to make a claim because of delayed flight. They were awarded £20 each. I rang up the claim was sorted out over the phone and cheques were issued straight away.

My friend took her insurance with age concern she paid more for her policy and she has still not got her £20 for her delayed flight. Age concern want a letter from xl stating this. xl want £15 to send out this letter. Age concern wont accept the print out of the internet as proof of flying.

I've just booked my dads insurance with them for next week as he is of to magaluf for a week. it cost me £27 over the internet.

yes I have read all the terms and small print and age concern is nowhere near as good as the one I have had quotes for, and barring the post office, that was the highest quote given, all the rest were around the £45-80 I am, to be honest with you very annoyed at what he got quoted, I think they are just preying on those that will think that because its for the elderly that it will all be great for them and wont bother to shop around.
