TalkTalk does a T-Mobile - Passing Details to 3rd party company!

Options
A few weeks ago, I was on the Talktalk website, and entered my postcode & phone number to the Broadband checker. It told me there is no high speed broadband available in my area so I left it like that.

Now this week, I have been receiving 4 or 5 phone calls a day and it's starting to get a bit silly.

I looked up the number (from 1471) and googled that number. It turned out that it's from TalkTalk!

I never agreed for my phone number that I entered in the checker to be used for cold calling and I am already registered with TPS so this should not be happening.

I called TalkTalk customer services who advised me there is nothing they can do, that they have no access to "that database" and tried to fob me off by telling me to go to TPS and say that TalkTalk is cold calling me. I reminded them that I am already registered with TPS but they said the same thing.

So after a few "pushing & moaning" they admitted that they passed my details to a 3rd party company who does these cold calling. I asked them to repeat that again - passed my details to 3rd party company without my permission - they said yes.

I don't know about you, but that really annoyed me because I never gave them my permission.

I asked for manager. "Sorry, no manager available"

I asked for the 3rd party details so I can ask them to remove my number. "Sorry, I do not have the information"

I asked who has these informaton. "I do not know"

Gah

I asked for their complaint details. "Talk to TPS"

I pushed harder. "E-mail me at customer services"

I pushed even further. Got nowhere.

I gave up.

I'm not looking forward to the next ring from TalkTalk.

What can I do? What's my rights, now that they passed on my details to 3d party without my permission?

What is the address for their complaint department?

Thank for reading.

  • Doing the same to me as well - despite the fact the number I gave them was a number I use specifically for marketing calls. It only has the opportunity to ring between 1200 and 2pm. :D They won't take no for an answer though so I've stuck them through to my 'special' recorded message for such companies.

I too am having the same problem. Since entering my phone number into the Talk Talk website over a week ago they have phoned me everyday, sometimes even twice a day to try and get me to switch over. I was thinking of migrating to Talk Talk but it's a bit off putting when they are pestering you every day. Surely they can't be that desperate for customers.

It does say on their broadband checker that they may contact you but I didnt think it would be every single day!
'When you check broadband availability you may be contacted by TalkTalk to discuss your broadband requirements.'

I don't know how many times I have to tell them I am not interested in joining Talk Talk. When they phoned today I told the advisor that I am not happy they are contacting me every day especially when I've told them on several occasions that I am not interested. He said he would take my phone number off their system, so hopefully I wont be hounded from now on.

I have just dialled 1471 and this is the number they called from: 01656672900.

I used the broadband checker elsewhere on their page and it didn't say that. Just the front page.

Annoying... and they've juist called again a few minutes ago! Told them to go away. Wonder how long until the next call.

I have just visited their website so I am expecting another call now. Yesterday when I checked their website they phoned me within 30 seconds and I didnt even put my phone number in (maybe just a coincidence). It was last wednesday when I entered my number and they have called me every day since. I've told them I am not interested and that I still have 6 months left of my broadband contract, hopefully I got through to them this time.

I remember a few months back when I used a broadband comparison website (www.top10-broadband.co.uk) , I entered my phone number in the checker to find the best prices and Talk Talk picked up on this and phoned me within 5 minutes (even though I did not visit their website or click on the deal). They have not phoned me since until I used their website last week. I do get alot of marketing calls, despite being registered with TPS and now I think it is with entering my phone number into these comparison websites.

My brother joined Talk Talk this week and he too is getting marketing calls. No one has his phone number as it is a new line and only went live this week when Talk Talk activated his broadband and phone.

  • I am actually on TalkTalk but was checking internet availability on Tiscali for my parents the other day (different address and number). I never put my details in but I have just received a call from TalkTalk asking why I was looking at services on Tiscali!!!!

No idea what my rights are here but is this not illegal.

    P.S. They called on 01656672900
  • Since my post here, they still carried on calling us... even that we told them to stop, they said that our details has been removed, they still called on the next day!

    Getting very fed up now.

Thankfully they have stopped phoning me since I was told they would remove my number from their system. I wasnt too pleased last time they phoned so I think I finally got through to them.

  • I've got (or hopefully had) the same problem.

I think that they have now stopped, I'm not confident, however what I did was:-

    a) On the first call I, in a nice way, advised them that I was registered with the TPS and they they did not have permission to call again.

    b) On the second call, I firmly made it clear that they did not have permission to call me, they were not to call me again and that I was now going to make a complaint to the TPS

    c) I made a complaint to the TPS

    d) On the third call, I did not enter into any discussion with the and Instructed them that they did not have permission to call me and that I had made a complaint to the TPS, and if they called me again I would report them to the police for Harassment – I ended the call with the clear statement DO NOT CALL ME AGAIN. I hung up

I’ve not received a call since.

I’m not sure what they are trying to achieve with this. I might of been interested previously now due to their Harassment I will make it my personal objective never ever to have anything to do with them or any member of their group. i.e. in my case they have achieved the complete opposite of what they were trying to do!

Good luck to you all in stopping this harassment.
  • Sorry to resurrect an old post but they are still doing the same thing as of today 29th October 2010, along with another number they now use 0113 3902102. Its been constant this week but 4 times today despite telling them on the first call that I heard at 16.30 when I got home from work to remove me from their list. The phone then rang 30 minutes later from them and then twice more. On the last time I answered and told them to stop calling me the guy answered "well you never answer your phone".

Didn't I answer it at 16.30 and tell them to get lost. I have never been with them but I hate TalkTalk.

We are registered with TPS, this is harrasment.
