Hi Guy's,
I've just received a cheque from MBNA for just under a grand for my mis-sold ppi.
I phoned them as i think i'm due round about 2 and a half. After being on the phone for a 15mins with the women speaking rubbish she told me she will send out a breakdown on how they came to that amount. I was going to send away for a SAR but as they are going to send out a breakdown i will manage to work it out for that. WHICH WILL PROBABLY BE A LOAD OF RUBBISH!!!
Has this happened with anyone else and do i just put the cheque in the bank as a part payment as i haven't agreed on any amont??

I had a claim with MBNA (for unfair charges) and like you, they sent me a cheque (for a sum less than I claimed). I was advised to write back immediately (don't hang about) and state:
"I accept your cheque for £xxx as part payment only of my claim against you. There is still a dispute between us." Then go on to explain what they have to do in order to settle.
Then send the letter by Special or recorded delivery (important!). Wait five working days (from the date you send it) and then cash the cheque. This way - they can not say that you cashed the cheque so accepted the settlement in full.
FYI - after I had done this, MBNA sent me another cheque (for the remainder of the claim) about two weeks later.
Hope this helps:AIgnorance can be cured, but stupid is forever!:A
