Advice re Egg Please

I tried to reclaim my PPI for an Egg card (a/c now closed) back in Sept 07 due to the fact that it was written into the acceptance forms in such a way as to be viewed as being compulsory. Basically I thought you wouldn't get the card if you didn't have their PPI.
They wrote back in Nov 07 after having sent a couple of "we're looking into it" letters refusing my claim as
The application was online and I requested the cover myself.
Full info was given on the Egg web site.
Confimatory docs incl T&C's were sent to me informing of cover selected etc and how to cancel at any time should I so wish.
Egg kept me informed of transactions by making monthly statements available online.
Egg is an internet based a/c where no printed paper statements are provided and so it is the responsibility of the a/c holder to monitor their own finances. Therefore you had the opportunity to query the premium charges at a much earlier stage - mitigating your losses by doing so.
They then went on to say that I had 6 months to take the case to the FOS.
Having read that others were having no luck I gave up at that stage.
I've seen now that they seem to be paying out more so wondered if it was possible to progress this any further or is that it ?
I've also just noticed on the copy of the online application they sent me that the PPI is for accident, sickness and unemployment even though the application states I'm self-employed.
Views welcome please.

Hi there
First of all yes you are correct, many have still been successful and even at first received the same response as yourself.
However the FOS knows how these works by now and many have then been successful by taking their complaints to these.
Amersall is at least one of those who have been successful, this was EGG as well, so your best option would be is to take your complaint to the FOS now and let them take over this one for you, especially if that was the final decision sent by EGG.
Maybe amersall will post up some advice on this for you, fingers crossed and do not give up, you will get there.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"

Hey Di
Good advice as always. However isn't there a time limit on applying to FOS after the final letter is received by EGG? If this final letter was received in 2007 would it be an idea to write back to EGG and (a) see if they have changed their position or hopefully (b) get a more up to date final letter - does that make sense?0 -

Might be useful to say that you are requesting that they review your case in light of their fine last year (even though this was for PPI sales over the telephone). That might give the window to send your complaint to the FOS if Egg don't give a positive response.
Good luck!0 -

Hi hun, and not a problem.;)
Oh yes of course - there is a 6 month timescale from the final decision.
So no harm in contacting EGG again, where they may have possibly changed their position, or as you say another updated letter is another option, as maybe a new complaint.
Another way is, as with one of my claims, it was gone past the 6 month timescale to go to the FOS, but with my personal reasons and circumstances they did consider and take this on for me.;)
If there are good reason for not taking this to the FOS within the timescale, maybe there have been a health reason then for example, or hospital reasons etc, let the FOS know, and they should be able to take it into consideration. The one and only "Dizzy Di"

Thanks to everyone for their advice so far, it is really appreciated.
Is there some sort of case number/date regarding their fine that I should quote ?
Also where I just noticed on the copy of the online application they sent me that the PPI is for accident, sickness and unemployment even though the application states I'm self-employed, is it worth bringing that into the arguement as a reason for them to look at it again rather than just asking them nicely to look at the original reason?
Finally, can the claim be done via email rather than letter, a lot quicker if it is possible.
Thanks again0 -

Hi there
Not too sure if there is a certain code or not but check the info on the link here just in case.

There is no harm in emailing, but what I suggest you do is do this by email and tell them you will also be sending an hardcopy as well through the post.
Just in case they do not acknowledge this by email.
At least by posting by signed for (recorded delivery) you know it will defo reached them by checking this out on the tracking on the Royal mail website.
It is up to you, email them to go on with and ask them to confirm they have received this.;)
Some policies do cover for self employment, they vary, but try to check the policy out if you have this or ask them to send you one otherwise, but even though, there are lots of reasons for being mis sold, where you may also have other reasons.
Good luck. The one and only "Dizzy Di"

Hi Fedup,
I sent complaint by their secure e-mail got reply back by e-mail and then a hard copy by post. About a month has passed not heard anymore, I know they have 8 weeks but reading other posts some people have had their case successfully resolved within 2 weeks! Hoping that you get your claim looked into quickly with a successful outcome. Good Luck0 -
