Staff Alone until 9pm

No offence to your company [well, perhaps a little]; but if their takings for an evening are only going to cover one staff member and they can't afford two; then why bother opening at all?
If they have put it in writing that they will only take action after an incident; then please keep that piece of paper/email nice and safe won't you?0 -
The world really has gone mad by the looks of this thread.
Police officers are allowed to patrol alone yet people genuinely think someone shouldnt work in a shop alone until 9pm at night. What about all 24 hour garages? Very rarely more than one staff member.
Tbh unless there is reason to believe one isnt enough I think the OP and their colleagues are being unreasonable and creating a fuss where one doesnt exist.0 -
Sounds like a rough area ?
The bad biys will be more aware of cash being not banked over Xmas...and possibly assume better loot ?
Tough luck for the company it they get sued by a worker who asked and was refused...and gets injured later eh ?
Ask the cops for guidance, and or a watchful eye...THEY can't refuse or ignore your safety.

No they don't ..you never see a female cop patrolling alone. Police officers are armed with coshes and sprays and radios and several hundred pals (some with guns and dogs) on the other end of a radio..hardly the same thing is it?
24 hour garages exclude customers with hefty locks and security. No-one enters the shop.
So your comparison was not good in the rush to criticise the OP

Very well put, personally I think the OP is right to be concerned. I certainly would not like to be on my own in a shop. Our local Spar hasNo they don't ..you never see a female cop patrolling alone. I concur with this viewpoint.
Get on with it, or get out of it and let someone else have the chance of your job. When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.0 -

Firstly, You very rarely see police patrolling alone [or at all - they go around in their cars for the most part] - they go around in pairs to be intimidating. Also, they don't carry money and they are trained.
Secondly, 24 hr garages should be risk assessed - and if someone is working alone, they are usually working behind a cash window outside normal hours.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I meant to quote this NOT THANK! How ridiculous that people think it is acceptable working on your own in a shop, I wouldn't do it. In fact the shop I use to work had a minimum of 4 staff at all times of trading, and had to be 2 people to open up and close down. It's a matter of personal safety.borders_dude wrote: »I concur with this viewpoint.
