use a comparrison site to see who has lowest rates.
this will also vary according to your payment method.0 -
You will also need to register with the current supplier to the property. It will then take 28 days if you wish to change suppliler.0

I was going to say this. What might be best is for you to stick with the existing supplier until you've had a chance to work out your usage, and then think about switching.0 -

I disagree. You don't want to end up on British Gas' gas prices for months. If both the incumbent suppliers are the local suppliers then that could be very expensive. You should start researching with an average consumption and switch to an online direct debit tariff (specially since there are three or four months of winter coming - you could end up paying 20 or 30% extra for 60 or 70% of your annual consumption.)
Of course take Gemstar's advice and monitor your usage and look around again if necessary. And the present occupiers may well leave you with a decent tariff - in the first instance you could just chat to them!0 -

What's wrong with British Gas? Many MSE'ers say they come up cheapest for them. It all depends on usage (and perhaps where you live).
If you don't know your usage, then switching supplier is like jumping out of the fire pan.
What would be beneficial is speaking to the supplier and taking their advice as to what tariff may be cheaper irrespective of what you use. If you don't, you'll probably be put on the suppliers standard tariff and there are usually better options than that."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100
