Do I have a case to appeal against redundancy?

  • Hi, Thanks for all your replys.

Firstly can I say that the lady I am on about as done this before (8 years ago)and almost gave birth at work (same company) .....no one knew she was pregnant and she said she didnt know herself!!!! well by then she had 3 children,im sorry but a woman knows if shes pregnant. A ambulance was called to work and the baby was born 25 minutes later. I think it is a disgrace that a woman would put her baby in danger knowing the nature of our job. In answer to oldernotwiser no one could tell she was pregnant as she is a large built girl but kept her bump covered well with very loose clothing.

I am not the kind of person who gets people into trouble at work or would not like anyone to lose their job but the majority of the staff I work with have all said I should put in an appeal as this is unfair....hence the reason I came on this forum.
As for the weights we lift, there are various weights ranging from small jiffy bags right through to car engines! (the 75k weights are meant to be lifted by 2-3 people together but the majority of weights are lifted by women). The illnesses I had were work related ie ripped muscle in shoulder and I pulled my back out whilst lifting, there is no way I could of gone to work and lifted these weights with these problems...it would of created more, that was the reason for my 9 days sick.

    Best wishes baggie28

So your appeal is basically you dont like the fact that the fat mother kept her job so your suggesting they discriminate?
  • Anihilator.....by looking at your other posts you seem to have alot to say on almost everything from loans right through to employment and may I say you are not the most tactful person on the boards are you? for someone who as only been registered on these boards since September you seem to be acting like you run them. I would just like to say I have nothing against large people as you seem to think and have no interest is discrimination against anyone.

I came on here to see what other peoples opinions are....not just for your answer time and time again. I shall not come on the forums again I will stick with the nice friendly people on the comps board.

It's a shame you have been put off, there has been a spate of obnoxious posters recently. Hope you get somewhere with your appeal, or at least try to take it to a tribunal.

It may be worth contacting ACAS try looking on their website, if your lifting those weights, and not correctly then it is a health and safety issue, and your putting ur health at risk.
The company could say they have done the redundancy fairly, but try a solicitor, ask for a free initial interview and c what they say.
    Good luck x

    Absolutely Baggie28

Many people posting on these forums are distressed and seriously requiring assistance and advice. The majority of people do indeed receive great help based on other peoples experiences and/or knowledge which I am sure is gratefully received and will undoubtedly be a comfort during stressful times. I have also noticed many posters offer support which is excellent.

Why anyone would wish to post unhelpful and upsetting comments to people - many of whom are experiencing traumatic times is beyond me to be honest. Unfortunately, without a moderated forum, this will be an ongoing situation, however, I am sure that Martin Lewis would not wish that obnoxious and offensive people are using HIS forum to spew bile - over to you ML - because many other posters like baggie28 will not use these forums again which will be a shame and there is potential to bring the entire website into disrepute.

It is tempting to bite back, however, as I have posted in a previous thread, these people (in particular the one on this thread) have probably been bullied at school, have no say in their own house, likely be insignificant in their workplace and can only spout off their poison anonymously. Their partners (in the unlikely event they have one) will be dominant and these forums create an ideal outlet to bully and offend people without the fear of recrimination - ie a slap around the gob from the many offended posters and their families - not that I condone violence you understand!

The user name of the poster I am referring to says it all! There must be some personal issues going on or some insulation missing from the attic!

It is pretty sad really, however, very upsetting for the many distressed people seeking advice and assistance.

I would suggest that if anyone does not have anything constructive or helpful to post - well don't!

Rant over and sorry for going a little off topic.
