Energy saving bulbs
About two years ago I bought eight Philips Softone 6 year Energy Saver 20W bulbs from Lightbulbs Direct on a special offer. The bulbs are advertised as having a six year life but all of them have now expired.
I paid about £4.00 each when I bought mine but current cost from Lightbulbs Direct is now £8.80 !! - I would appreciate any suggestions for a cheaper source.
I notice LBD are still offering incandescent 100W bulbs - I thought these had now been banned ?

Hi Galba - It seems that the "Special Offer" was indeed a special offer, the best you can do is keep looking at the online traders, and if the "6 year life" was on Phillips packaging, why not try an Emailed complaint to them?
However a new generation of LED bulbs are hitting the market which consume app. only 3 watts compared to your present 20 Watt energy savers, and are much closer to the light values given out by incandescent bulbs. The downside is, is the price - £25 / £30. But like everything new the price will tumble over time, so it's worth keeing an eye out0 -

Its only domestic sales that have been withdrawn. Supplies are still available to commercial users.0 -
Check the small sprint you usually find that they'll state its based upon usage of three hours a day they probably won't honour it but it may be worth a try.0

Only the manufacture or importation of some light bulbs is banned.
They can still be sold by those who have stock."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Yes, I've been waiting for these to become viable. I don't plan to buy another CFL, the ones I've got should last until these LEDs become mainstream. However a new generation of LED bulbs are hitting the market which consume app. only 3 watts compared to your present 20 Watt energy savers, and are much closer to the light values given out by incandescent bulbs. Mind you, even at £30, they work out cheaper than a CFL when you include electricity at 4 hours a day for the claimed 25 years!0
