Non Uniform days raising school funds

Non uniform day in our school used to be solely for CIN or Red Nose day and used to cost a £1. However, if you ever didn't bring in your money but still didn't wear uniform no big deal was made of it. I remember forgetting my money on at least two occassions and nothing was said. We had strict rules on what we could and could not wear (no bare midriffs!) & the form tutors used to inspect what you were wearing - if it wasn't suitable you were given something from lost property (ugh!). I don't remember anyone getting any stick over what they were wearing although we did used to have a giggle at the one's who had forgot and came in in uniform!
However imo I don't think it's right for the school to split funds between the charity and themselves. If they need to have a charity fundraiser for the school this should be done on a separate occasion to make the distinction clear. I have fond memories of children in need days in school & as long as the amount is reasonable I think that it is good to teach children about the charity and the work it does.:happylove DD July 2011:happyloveAug 13 [STRIKE]£4235.19[/STRIKE] £2550.00 :cool:0 -

There is a clear principle in Charity law that if a donation is given for a specific purpose, you cannot divert it off for something else - so a Children in Need non uniform day that quietly diverts money to school funds is not within that! If they are open and up front about it, then fine, but they cannot do it on the quiet so that people think they are giving for one thing only to discover that part of it is going to something else entirely.
Good point - it would form a 'designated fund' under Charities Law (the accountant in me is bursting to say.)Today is the first day of the rest of your life0 -

I have seen the pressure non uniform days put on the kids who can't afford it, or the clothes that all the other kids show off in:oIt is a good money raiser. but a very demoralising day for the less fortunate pupils who either come in uniform and get mocked, or come in cheap clothes and get the same:("You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

#2 & 3 DS begged for £3 (£1.50 each) to 'pay' for non uniform day - to go to CIN.
No cash in the house, so I sent a cheque. #2 son was nearly in tears at the thought of not taking part and being bullied (he has a history of being bullied at this school which ended with him being externally excluded because he thumped one of them........)
When I went to the school website, the £1.50 is being split between CIN and 'in house projects'.
I object to being blackmailed into paying towards joint funds like this - there are 6 other 'activities' during the day in addition to mufti day, all costing 50p each. Surely they would be enough, without putting the children under the peer pressure/bullying oportunity of 'non uniform day'?
lord grey by any chance ? mine had to pay that too, plus money to watch something on the astro turf + this and that and with 3 of em it wasnt a cheap dayDont forget that little Thanks button , only takes a sec0 -
our school asked for a voluntary donation of £1 for them to dress in own clothes or something beginning with 'p' which is fine and they were selling cakes biscuits and badges, all cash raised goes to CIN i think its great that they all get to have a good day(we have silly assemblies for CIN todays was x-factor) it is a worthwhile cause and i really dont mins supporting my girls primary school as it is a good community school also so everyone is willing to chip in no matter how little or how much:xmastree:Is loving life right now,yes I am a soppy fool who believes in the simple things in life :xmastree:0
