Help with 5 Year Old Homework.

  • 5yo homework is nuts, IMHO. Ds is in year one, and has come home with near on essays to write. This week was writing a fairy tale - he's 5!!!! I'm fairly certain half in his class still can't write! He's learnt around half of the times tables (which also seems bonkers to me as I distinctly remember learning them in juniors). I know he's capable but it seems almost cruel.

He came out of class the other day and burst into tears saying he was being given a lunch time detention for not doing his homework, which he HAD done and was in his homework book but the teacher didn't actually look and he got all flustered. My poor little guy :(
  • It didn't grow - no need to be concerned. It demonstrates something important in science, that not everything will grow even when all conditions are provided.
