Which trees for hedging?

I want a hedge to encourage wildlife into my garden, i've just ordered a mixture of about 25 assorted plants from Buckingham nurseries costing a little over £30.
Delivery depends upon the weather, when they can harvest them, so i'm preparing the ground now.
I spoke to my neighbours about it 'cos i didn't want them to think i was going to let it grow as high as the house.. I thought about 5/6ft.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.
