Entitlement Christmas Week- please help

Hello everyone, I need your help!
The basics first - i'm working fulltime 37.5 hrs a week, i get 30 days holiday which includes the 8 days for bank holidays.
The question - I work in a shop, week starts Monday to Sunday obviously Friday is xmas and Saturday boxing day, I get xmas day off and want boxing day off too, am i still entitled to an extra day off that week as in my contract it says i retain a day from xmas day???
Pleaseeeeeee help!

Boxing day Public holiday will move to Monday the 28th Dec this year. You should be entitled to take this day off or retain an 'extra' day of holiday if you are asked to work it.

Most people I know who work in retail are expected to work bank holidays as the shops are open on those days, but are given extra annual leave to make up for having to work them.

Do you normally get the bank holidays off or do you just get extra days leave rather than work them. More importantly, what does your contract say about bank holidays?

I appreciate this is probably not going to be deemed as a helpful comment, but I never understand with this and similar questions as to why the OP doesn't just ask the boss/employer? Surely they are the only ones who can tell you if you can have that day off and what the company's policy is.
