If the credit cards were used to make the loan repayments... Aren't you only £18k in debt??
Surely the £10k has been repaid with the cards.
Still not a nice figure but £18k is much better than £27k0 -
so you spent £25,500 on general living, no doubt whilst claiming the countless benefits you were entitled too!
No sympathy at all as you must have been living well in luxury.
after 9 years of scraping by you could say i lived in luxury, and i have always been told that there are other benefits that i should clame but i never wanted to as i dont want to bleed the state dry but when you fall ill you may understand that. and yes i know i should have not taken the money, but my kids come first and like some say i would kill for my kids, well i would brake any rules for my kids, they have been happy for the last year going out at week ends and treating them was better than any thing, now i will make good to the problem.. most people would not want to pay it back but i do and i will, if i cant i will be come an mp and then clame it back.0 -
Dan try not to take some things to heart it's best to get some advice as to where you stand. Could you maybe deliver leaflets catalogues in your own time or sell items on eBay to generate some money to help payments? Maybe there will be a silver lining. If your willing to pay it back I don't know how you stand for lying I haven't had any personal expierence. Sorry you are right i do tent to take every thing to heart.
just to let you know that i spent alot of money on a website, i paid some one to build a system like ebay and myspace in one, and then i was riped off in the end, its life and all the pennys that get wasted soon add up.
but truly thanks for all your grate words, i dont think i will go bankrupt i want to see if i can start work and make some thing of my self and pay this money back.0 -
For what it's worth, I think the hardest part is admitting the mess you are in.
Most people will be supportive on this website.
Keep the chin up and try and seek legal advice through legal aid, perhaps?0 -
I'm not sure this is good advice, yes he has commited a criminal offence by lying on a loan application form and receiving monies that would not have normally been available to him. Why does everyone think that bankruptsy is an easy way out. I realise that things can be pretty dire for some people but lying and deceiving banks to obtain money is a criminal offence. End of.hopefulfooluk wrote: »1. No - you are not a criminal.
2. Yes these debts would be covered by a bankruptcy
Don't worry! Just call the CCCS and National Debt Line, explain the situation and they will help you find a way forward. If that way forward is bankruptcy, then pop over to the bankruptcy board and we'll help you through things. I have been in the situation, it is not pretty, but there is always light at the end of the tunnel.
Good luck

Whilst I agree with this statement, I also think that when you are mentally ill any common sense and sense of right and wrong disappears.
I also think that whilst I believe the bank is not to blame in this case, as in OP clearly lied, I find it so weird that banks don't have to see payslips, it's just soooooooooo wrongOriginally Posted by Dr Cuckoo3

Even if the OP was pushed down the fraud path, he/she would get no such crime recorded against him/her as the mental health issue would make that claim void.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Pure rubbish. mental health doesnt void a crime.Even if the OP was pushed down the fraud path, he/she would get no such crime recorded against him/her as the mental health issue would make that claim void.
He would be sectioned under the mental health act.
Be advised that OP has acknowledged that he knowingly lied. Mental excuse cannot be used on this occassion.0 -
speak to the CAB about a debt relief order, depending on your circumstances it maybe an option and is cheaper and quicker than bankruptcy0
