Freehold with maintenance fee - is it worth?

Hi,

I wonder if it's worth to pay 200 pounds quaterly for the service of on site facilities. Is it a trend that developers use it to rip-off house buyers even they have completed the purchase of a property from them?

Recently we have seen a property which meets all our requirements. But we found out from the vendor that people living in that development have to pay maintenace fees for facilities like buses, swimming pool, on-site nursery, gym, guards..... we love the properties and it's hard to find something like it in local area. Does anyone have any experience of living in such kind of development?

Any opinions will be appreciated.

I've never lived in such a development but for some time was attracted to the development of a local historical building. When I found out it had onsite facilities that had to be paid for by hefty monthly charges I lost interest.

I think the purchase of such a property limits your market when it comes to selling as there are many people who don't want to be forced to pay for the facilities that they won't make use of.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

    Where is this development?

Sounds like a deal you might get abroad.

    Pay for buses?!?
